Arkansas Bariatric Surgery has been providing comprehensive bariatric surgical care since 1995. Our bariatric surgical team is the largest & most experienced in the state. We have three highly skilled surgeons who specialize in the surgical treatment of morbid obesity and are skilled in advanced laparoscopic procedures. Each of our surgeons has a dedicated bariatric nurse who works closely with them and helps coordinate patient care. We also have dedicated office staff who are instrumental in the approval process and help keep our office running efficiently. We are a close-knit team and we take great pride in the excellent care we provide.
 

Our Surgeons

Dr. Mark Gibbs

Dr. Mark Gibbs

After graduating from Baylor University, Dr. Gibbs attended the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He completed general surgery residency programs at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dr. Gibbs is a board certified surgeon and co-director of the BAPTIST HEALTH Bariatric program. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and the Pulaski County Medical Society.

Dr. Gibbs has been in private practice in Little Rock since 1986 and established our bariatric program in1995. As an advanced laparoscopic surgeon, he has traveled the country teaching other surgeons the laparoscopic gastric bypass procedure.

Dr. J. D. Fuller

Dr. Fuller attained his undergraduate degree from Baylor University, after which he attended medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Fuller joined our clinic in 2005 after completing his general surgery residency and bariatric surgical training at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Tx.

Dr. Fuller is a board certified general surgeon with a special interest in advanced laparoscopic bariatric surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is also a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Arkansas Medical Society, and the Pulaski County Medical Society.

Dr. Eric Paul

Dr. Eric Paul

Dr. Paul studied at Baylor University and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He then attended medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma and after concluding a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery and bariatric surgery at Emory University, he joined our team in 2010.

Dr. Paul is a board certified general surgeon, with interests in bariatric & gastrointestinal surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Pulaski County Medical Society.

Our Nurses

Arkansas Bariatric Surgery has some of the state’s most experienced bariatric nurses. Our nurses are very knowledgeable about the treatment of morbid obesity and its co-morbidities, as well as the ongoing care of our post operative patients. Our nurses are involved in all aspects of patient care; from seminars to annual follow up visits our nurses are always available to assist our patients. It is not uncommon for bariatric patients to have questions before or after surgery and our nurses are available to help promptly with any concerns you may have.

Shannon Hankins, RN, CBN

Shannon joined the clinic in 2006 as Dr. Fuller’s nurse and in 2009 helped facilitate the addition of Dr. Fuller to the Bariatric Center of Excellence. Shannon is also a certified bariatric nurse.

Carrie Walker, RN, BSN

Carrie has worked with Dr. Gibbs since 2002 and her vast experience is a valuable resource to our team. Carrie was instrumental in obtaining our clinic’s Bariatric Center of Excellence Certification in 2007.

Leslie Nix, RN, BSN

Leslie is Dr. Paul’s nurse and the newest member of our bariatric team. She brings with her over 15 years of medical-surgical nursing experience.
